Now with Cut/Copy/Paste!

There are over 100 new features for consumers, but really, who cares now that we can copy and paste between all applications.

New features:

  • Landscape mode and keyboard in Mail, Notes, and Messages (the new name for SMS).
  • MMS support in Messages allowing for sending and receiving locations, photos, contacts, and audio files.
  • New Voice Memos application which will allow for recording of memoes with sharing via e-mail and MMS.
  • Calendar now has CalDAV support and can subscribe to .ics format calendars.
  • Stocks app now has landscape mode and will include more detailed reports on stocks as well as new headlines.
  • Search has been added to Contacts, Mail, Calendar, iPod, Notes.
  • New home screen called Spotlight which will allow for searching all locations and applications from one place.

Other features include:

  • Note sync
  • Shake to shuffle on the iPod
  • WiFi automatic login
  • Stereo Bluetooth
  • YouTube account support
  • More languages supported
  • More Parental Controls
  • And more!

Developers obviously get to start playing with the new iPhone OS starting today. Consumers will have to wait until sometime this summer when it will be a free update for iPhone 3G and iPhone 2G users (although the first generation iPhone will some features due to hardware limitations) and a paid upgrade for iPod Touch users.
