But suppose a base prime sequence means nothing to an alien species? That’s what I am getting at. I guess they could be similar enough to us that our detected noise would be enough to prompt decoding attempts, but what of other possibilities for societies that are more tribal and perhaps not advanced in the way we would think? I also think about the possibility of telepathy.

I’ve always been fascinated with imaginative ideas regarding alien cultures, especially since reading The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell. That book was phenomenal and thought provoking. (As for ‘shaking hands’ with aliens I sort of figured that’s what transmitting a base prime number sequence was for. Basically, a “Hello, we’re sentient! You’re sentient too? Awesome.” Although how that information would be transmitted would be the problem, but scientists seem to feel that it is our best start.)
